Often, part of what makes a resort lovely is having a good beach. Whether you prefer pebbles to sand is entirely your own choice, but somewhere you can relax and enjoy the warmth is always important.

My son is forever losing things. His homework. His library Book. That very important note I was supposed to sign and return. He is also often off-task. Playing Lego's after I asked him to clean his room. Pretending to slay imaginary storm troopers with his wooden spoon light saber, when he should be unloading the dishes. At nine years old I'm figuring he should be able to self-regulate; control his thoughts, his body; manage his time efficiently. Don't all kids know how to do this when they hit age nine? Apparently not. My ranting and raving were to no avail, and only made my son tune me out. So instead of yelling and nagging about what needs to be done, here are three simple ideas I implemented that have really eased the tension.

In his early twenties after working in his brother's store, serving as a school teacher for a brief stint, taking in some education, and serving as a deck hand for a short time, Melville decided it was best to leave his family (and the poverty) behind and signed on as a seaman aboard a whaling ship in 1841. He did not return to New York until 1844; during his time away he spent time in Marquesas, Tahiti, and Honolulu, and had held many positions.

In my travel briefcase, I keep a plastic storage bag containing 3-4 flipchart markers, cough drops, tissue and masking tape (to mark off back rows of training rooms). I also keep an extra battery for my presentation remote. These items are always where I need them when I need them.

If you and your partner are in this situation, it would be a good idea to go on a short vacation without the kids if possible. This would be your chance to spend a relaxing time together and work out problems in your marriage. When couples commit to making their marriage last, they have to find a way to get to the bottom of the issues and make a compromise to strengthen their bond.

With the advent of same day flower delivery, you don't have to worry about missing that special occasion. The cost of arrangements made with imitation flowers can be as much as a fresh arrangement, or more. However, the cost should be viewed over the total time period the arrangement will be enjoyed. If you are using mostly roses and lilies for your wedding flowers, you might need a couple hundred of each. Moreover, if you want to send flowers to someone who is really far away and may be in some other part of the world, there is nothing to worry about.

Biting. Now this one may seem a little OTT but playful biting can be an enormous turn on for him, just wait until he's got out of the shower or having a shave, walk up and put your arms around him from behind and give him a little bite on the top of his back. Just remember with this one, not too hard.

Everyone knows that one must be quiet. Turn cell phones off or at least on a vibrate or silent setting. No brainer, right? But here are some other no-brainers not so generally followed.

I went to the book store yesterday and stumbled upon a book I've wanted for ages, Snow White and Rose Red by Patricia C. Wrede. This was first published by Tor (I love their fairly recently launched site, which is awesome because they share all the news in the genre, not just their own news, with a frequently updated site. It's worth a look.) in 1989 and I've been trying to get my hands on it since I discovered Amazon sold out of print books. Unfortunately, it was one of those books that was never available so I just silently pined away. Then yesterday I went to the bookstore and lo! There it was! In the YA section! Recently republished by Firebird, which was nothing short of a brilliant as far as Firebird goes.

By far one of the coolest summer events in Portland in my Book, is the Portland Adult Soapbox Derby. It's like the Red Bull Flugtag event in a way. Local enthusiasts spend countless hours of their free time conceptualizing, designing and engineering these soapbox cars for months out of the year and it all culminates in one event that happens tomorrow, Saturday August 22nd at Mt. Tabor Park in Southeast Portland.

We live in a world full of toxins. Even if you have a fantastic diet, you will come into contact with poisons in the products you use to clean your home, wash your clothes not to mention those you inhale when you travel. Using natural products such as tea tree oil to clean your home will help to reduce your exposure to chemicals. You can buy alternative cleaning products that are manufactured without poisonous chemicals and bleach. Take a look at the products you use on a daily basis and see how you can reduce your family's exposure to toxins. There are many alternatives available, such as soap nuts laundry detergent.
