The Kerem Tunnel, the first cycle tunnel in Israel, has been inaugurated as part of the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycle route that circles Jerusalem, Israel's capital city.

Elkin's Ministerial, Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality and Gihon Corporation contributed approximately NIS 25 million to the project. The project was executed by the Jerusalem Development Authority.
Elkin stated, "The Kerem Tunnel project will be a central instrument in achieving our goal to change the way transportation is conducted in Jerusalem." The aim is to encourage cycling among residents of Jerusalem.
The Kerem Tunnel first was excavated in the 1990s to create a main sewer line for the Gihon Corporation towards Sorek. It is currently used as an infrastructure Tunnel which includes the fifth waterline that runs to Jerusalem from the Mekorot water corporation.
